This year, we didn’t go anywhere for spring break and my daughter really wanted to get together with some of her girlfriends from school. Plus, she’s been obsessed with the idea of camping lately, and I’m just not a camping kind of girl. So I came up with the idea of having a “Glamping” get together for girlfriends and it was the perfect afternoon with pals!
This was so easy that we’re keeping this in our catalog of ideas for rainy day activities, and honestly for those waaaaay too hot Georgia summer afternoons so my child doesn’t lose her mind from boredom (and this Mama in the process too)!
This was the fun invitation I made using Stampin’ Up products to get the girls excited about some fun times!
And this is so simple and cheap to put together, it just made me incredibly happy.
We ended up making a tee-pee style tent because quite frankly, it was way easier to do that way. We just got four 1×4 boards and created the crossed top with those (screwing them together then tying them at the top with some twine). Seriously – crazy easy. Then, I took two plain white flat sheets to cover the structure and make it look like a very bohemian Fancy Nancy-style tee-pee tent. You can get sheets dirt cheap at Wal-Mart by the way. I’m talking less than $10.
Then all I did was add a lot of ribbon and other embellishments I already had from my craft room to really make the tent look more glamorous – hence the name glamping (glamorous camping!). Then we put a blanket (pink of course) in the bottom and some girlie throw pillows from Reese’s room along with some favorite stuffed animals. And voila! You have a glamp tent ready to go in your living room! We will definitely be pulling this out many times throughout the year for quite some time! These girls had a ball! And when 2 little brothers showed up with their Mama to collect their sister, they fell in love with the tent too!
It also helps when you’re wearing a costume. 😉 One of the best ideas we’ve ever had to turn a normal day into a fabulous one!
Here’s how we made our super, simple, extremely-basic no sew teepee tent:
- My husband took four 1x4s and crossed the tops of 2, drilled them in to stay secure, then took the other 2 and did the same.
- Then we took each pair and tied the tops together (so it actually looks like a teepee crossing up top).
- Then I took white sheets for the cloth part wrapped around (I hot glued them just a tiny bit onto the wood supports to keep them in place).
- Then embellished with a lot of fabulousness (i.e. ribbon and trim).
