    Living with Style Blog Hop

Welcome to our April Blog Hop!

This month we are focusing on all things Mother’s Day…it’s only a couple of weeks away! Get ready for some great ideas, inspiration and how to as you move along through the blog hop.

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from #23 Bethany at Salty Blonde on our Living with Style Blog Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you make sure to see and learn from all of the articles featured here today.

Today I’m sharing a watercolor greeting card idea that the moms in your life will love, plus a watercolor place card and a crafty place setting idea for this Mother’s Day! At the end of the post, you’ll find the resources to create your own or get some already made.

Create a handmade greeting card for your mom that looks like a real artist created it! All you need to do is stamp the sentiment and the flower designs, then take a watercolor brush or aqua painter (pictured below) and use the ink from your stamp pad mixed with water to watercolor your flower design. I prefer looks like this one where you pull the ink from the edges. It gives it that more “finished” look and touch!

Here are a few more images of this greeting card –

This is created using the exact same technique as above, except that I hand-lettered the name.

(Cumby is my mom’s name. I’ve had a lot of people ask already because it’s an unusual name – it’s a nickname for Columbia.)

Notice how when you put these cards on a darker backdrop (linen or paper), they really pop and you can appreciate them even more!

The place cards pictured here are flat cards, but you could use the same technique and create a tent card if you don’t want to use a fork (or another prop) to hold up your card. And according to taste, choose where you want your flower placement and have a great time creating!

    Mother’s Day Place Setting Idea

When I was creating this, I had a completely different idea in mind, then had the inspiration to go in a completely different direction and create what you see here. (Which is way more fabulous than my original idea, I’ll tell you!!)

Kids aren’t the only one who can create heartfelt ways to say how you feel. Explore your creativity and tell the moms in your life what they mean to you …. right on their place setting! Simply use kraft or butcher paper to create runners or to use as an overlay for your tablescape this Mother’s Day!

    2. Dianne says:

Good Morning Natalie! I love this idea of stamping and watercolors!! I’ve tried stamping and using markers but never using watercolors. The design is beautiful! I will be trying this in the next few weeks! Thank you for a wonderful idea!! ~Dianne @ http://www.scrutinizinglife.com

    3. Kristy S. says:

What a beautiful idea! LOVE the list of reasons you love your mom on the tablescape! Such a great idea and so versatile for many different celebrations. This makes me want to get some watercolors out and play!

      • Thank you Kristi! That’s probably my favorite part too! 🙂 And I do love this for so many ideas …. gratitudes at Thanksgiving, blessings at Christmas, what you love about the birthday girl or guy and so on. 🙂 I’ve been having a great time with the watercolors too! Thank you!!

    4. Rhonda says:

Love this place card idea! The writing on the brown paper is beautiful! I would want to frame it for a keepsake! Fantastic idea that anyone can do! Rhonda

    5. Natalie, you never cease to amaze me! I want to be You, when I grow up! Your Mother’s Day tribute is awesome and I so appreciate being the Mom that’s a part of this blog post and photo shoot! I so LOVE it all and I LOVE you too! I am purchasing several cards (as you know) for Mother’s Day for my needs as well…..I can not wait to see them in person!

    6. Sofia Linha says:

Natalie, this is beautiful!! Such a great idea for the place setting! And the watercolor looks perfect. Now I’m going to need to try this out. And I think this would be amazing also for weddings, wouldn’t you say? Like, having the place setting prepared and one pen for each table and have each guest leave a message on that area. Would make a great memento!

Great job, thank you so much for sharing!

    7. Leah says:

      Natalie,

I absolutely love the look of your card. I saw a few of your teasers and decided to make an attempt at watercolors again. So I have been working on some backgrounds. Then I plan to use in my Silhouette to cut and then sketch a nice quote using the sketch pen feature.
      Thanks for the inspiration.

      Leah

    8. Jamie says:

      Natalie,
This is beautiful and I do believe I can replicate it! I love how pretty it is! And I kind of wish I was hosting a bridal shower some time soon to use the name cards as well. Beautiful touch !

    9. Sooo beautiful Natalie. I admire your artistry very much! What a wonderful idea that could be adapted for a variety of occasions. Sweet to read your moms comments 🙂
      Hugs,

Hi Natalie, I never though to prop the place cards on a fork like that. Very cool! (Also, LOVE your handwriting btw!)

    12. Your card idea is beautiful! I love the place setting and your handwriting is gorgeous 🙂

    13. I love these ideas – the place cards are beautiful!

    14. Abby says:

I am so in love with your placemat idea! I completely agree, it’s something moms of grown children would love, too. My kids are toddlers, but I can’t imagine a time when something like this wouldn’t make me tear up.

    15. These are beautiful! Love the watercolors!

    16. Fanny says:

      Hi Natalie,

These are lovely ideas to making Mother’s Day special! Love them!

    17. Love everything but I love being able to use some really good calligraphy there. I hope I get to set my own family dinner this way, too, not just on Mother’s Day.
