A couple of weeks ago, I realized a strange behavior (or habit?) I have that I wanted to change. If you don’t know already, I love to garden. I mean love, love, love to work in the dirt, plant and grow beautiful flowers, shrubs, trees, food, you name it! And then the process of watching these beautiful things blossom, grow, and multiply is one of my absolute favorite things.
But then I realized I have a really bizarre habit of not wanting to bring these beautiful things inside to enjoy them just because. Sure, I’ll cut them for special occasions like Easter, Mother’s Day, Birthdays and so on, but I guess I never felt like “today” was a justified reason to enjoy them. Like the occasion of just enjoying things for the sheer pleasure of appreciating beautiful things wasn’t enough. It’s really so strange when I think about it. Do you do that too? Are all of us guilty of not thinking we are worthy enough to lavish beauty on ourselves when no one else is around to also appreciate it?
Well over the past months, I’ve been working more and more on wanting to turn every day living into a party – a reason to celebrate, if you will! Just because we are alive. Just because today is an incredible day to take pleasure and joy in. Because we are worthy to enjoy the fruits of our own labors!
And so a few weeks ago, I finally broke this habit and started cutting and bringing in these beautiful flowers that bring me so much joy. And interestingly enough, the first day I did this, my husband Edward came up to me and said, “One of my favorite things that you do is bring our garden flowers inside for special occasions. I didn’t have that growing up and I didn’t realize how awesome something so simple could be. I’m glad you’re doing this for us too, and not just because we’re having a party!”
Isn’t that funny? I’m intrigued when something so small can turn into such lovely slices of heaven right here in our everyday lives. And so today, I say that TODAY is the perfect occasion for us all to enjoy the small things that bring beauty and joy into our lives! Here’s a little garden love from my home to yours today!
