    hot toddy

I’ve said it a thousand times…fabulous cocktails will make your event, but the winter recipes are my absolute favorite! In my opinion, what makes these seasonal cocktails so much more enjoyable from other concoctions is that they are super rich and smooth to the taste. The bold flavors and ingredients are both sugary and spicy, and they are served warm to fend off the harsh winter elements…this is the essence of a hot toddy!!

Hot toddies are also quite versatile. Whether they are sugary, spicy, alcohol or non-alcohol based, recipes range from basic cider to those great cure-alls grandma used to make. They are perfect for sipping by the fire at home or equally exciting to try on your next snow skiing trip! Anyone who lives in a cold climate will tell you about their favorite winter toddies!

At holiday cocktail parties, you can use your favorite hot toddy to serve as a dessert or with your sweets to add that extra oomph. They can also make  a creative beverage option! Try incorporating your favorite liquor or liqueur, cider, mulled spices or wine into your recipe. For fun, have a private sampling pre-party to see what you can concoct.

Hot chocolate is a great beverage to incorporate with your favorite flavors – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic shots are fantastic. You can find all sorts of rich flavoring thanks to the surge in gourmet coffee shops; so now, you can play bartender with ease.

After-dinner coffee toddies, with wonderful added elements like Amaretto, make an appetizing end to any evening! For a very special winter event and for a lot of impact, you could even serve slightly warmed liqueurs inside of chocolate cups. So, you can see, creativity is not just limited to the ingredients! Garnishes are essential part of your toddy too. The detailed addition of cinnamon sticks, floating spices, whipped cream, chocolate toppings or sugary rimmers will delight your guests ’til the last sip!

Have fun with your recipe-making, whether you like it rich and spicy or sweet and sugary! No matter what you decide to create for your next soiree, everyone will enjoy the tingling sensation of delicious hot toddies! Here is a sampling of hot toddy recipes you might what to try. Also look online for hot toddy ideas – and are two great places to start!
